Delicious Kebab in Amsterdam EUR 2.00

Leman Bakkerij is a tiny Doner shop in van Woustraat, that sells the most delicious Kebab in town!

Only EUR 2,00 per broodje, take away or eat in (only few seats available).

What really makes the difference is the bread they use: it's a homemade pita soft in the inside and crunchy in the outside.

They also sell Turkish Pizzas and some typical Turkish sweets (baklavas).

Extremely tasty!

Pizza: Pricey but ITALIAN

Unfortunately I haven't found an Italian pizzeria in Amsterdam with "normal" prices but at least I have found one that has a reason to be pricey.

This Pizzeria is Fuoco Vivo in De Clerqstraat.

Let me tell you that I know about good Pizza's and this would be considered delicious also in Italy.

A fully Italian staffed pizzeria with genuine ingredients and a wood-fired oven!

Prices are up, as said: the Marinara is EUR 8.00, Margherita is EUR 9.60 and prices go up until EUR 14.50 (excluding Pizzas of the Week or Pizzas of the Season which are EUR 16.00).

They serve only pizza, desserts and some antipasti.

If you are a pizza lover, you will spend this money with joy.

They open at 17.00 and they are closed on Monday!

Best Apple Pie in Amsterdam, probably in the World!

If you like Apple Pies you MUST go to try this one and if you don't like Apple Pies you should give them another try and taste the pie from De Winkel!

In my life I have never eaten a better Apple Pie than this one!

De Winkel is a nice wooden bar in the Jordaan. It's located in the Noordermarkt square. If you go on a Saturday morning, you can also take a look at the Northern Market, which is really nice! De Winkel will be quite busy though on that day!

Please just go there and order an Apple Pie (with or without whipped cream) and you'll know what I mean.

A warning: the pie contains cinnamon. I don't usually like cinnamon but in this pie it doesn't feel odd at all!

Price of the slice is EUR 3,50 and it's a big one!

Enjoy :)

Greek Traditional Pastries in Waterlooplein!

Salty and Sweet pastries from Thessaloniki, Greece in sale at the Waterlooplein Market!

This was the greatest discovery ever for a perfect Saturday brunch!

Really cheap pastries directly from Greece ( EUR 2,50!!!) filled with meat, feta cheese, spinach, sausage, cream etc.

They also prepare delicious Crepes (salty and sweet) and the typical greek FRAPPE'!

The shop is a stand which is part of the market. The location is near the entrance of the underground garage from the side of the metro station, some meters before the Bagels and Beans. It's located between a nuts seller and a loempia stand.

They also have some tables to sit and eat. IT'S A MUST TRY!!!

Check their Facebook page:

As it is part of the Market, they close at 17.00 and they are not there on Sundays.

Stadskantine - EUR 8.95 per dish!

Stadskantine is a new concept restaurant in Amsterdam.

They cook everyday 1 Meat dish, 1 Fish dish and 1 Vegetarian dish. Each dish is EUR 8.95. Only Pin allowed (no cash).

The cooking style is really eclectic and everyday they offer a different choice.

Portions are quite big and satisfactory. You pick up your own tray with your dish and then you freely take a seat.

They also serve desserts, sandwiches, refreshments, coffees, smoothies and breakfast deals.

To be tried!

Wild Moa Pies - Hot Pies From New Zealand!

The Wild Moa Pies shop sells homemade traditional pies from New Zealand. The price is EUR 3,50 each and they accept cash only.

Among the options, I strongly recommend the Steak Pie and the Chicken Pie.

De Koffieketel - Great Breakfast/Lunch in Van Woustraat

De Koffieketel is a small breakfast/lunch place owned by an Irish lady in Van Woustraat.

It really reminds me of a diner in Brooklyn. Everything is really tasty and the menu is big! The ladies are really sweet and ready to help the customer with any request. Really homey atmosphere.

I recommend the English Breakfast! You can have it big or small and it includes fried eggs, toasted bread with jam and butter, beans, sausages, white and black pudding, Tea, coffee or Orange Juice.

When the sun shines and the temperature is high enough, you can seat in their courtyard.

Tokyo Cafe - Sushi Unlimited!

Sushi is really really expensive! That's why Sushi lovers HAVE to protect their wallets going to Eat As You Can sushi restaurants.

Personally I go to Tokyo Cafe in Spui. The reasons are simple: they are fast, they are busy (which guarantees a good recycle of fish) and they have a good choice menu.

You have 2 options for Lunch (12.00 - 16.00): Basic Menu EUR17.80 p.p. and De Luxe Menu EUR 21.80. Difference is having sashimi and other more expensive stuff in the De Luxe menu.

You have 2 options for Dinner ( 17.00 - 23.00 - last order at 22.00): Basic Menu EUR 22.80  and De Luxe Menu EUR 26.80. Same difference as for the lunch.

The restaurant works in "shifts". You have to book your table (it's usually really crowded) for the 1st (i.e. 17 - 20) shift or for the 2nd (i.e. 20 - 23).

Romios - Greek Delicatessen

Do you want to eat some good Greek stuff without getting trapped between fake marble columns and kitch decor restaurants?

Then Romios is your place. It's not really what you can call a restaurant, but it's a delicatessen with a display window of the food they have, you just pick what you want and decide if eating it there or take it away. They have a few table and nice atmosphere. The owner (who cooks) is Greek and his wife (who sells) is Dutch but speaks perfect Greek.

Food really tastes as homemade and portions are big so can be shared. In general with EUR 12,00 you can get a nice meal. If you also feel like drinking, you can have a Mythos (Greek beer) or even a Retsina wine (nice and light white wine).

Pilsvogel - Tapas and more in De Pijp

De Pilsvogel is not a spanish restaurant but they make nice and quite big tapas plates.

Usually they have a dish of the day (good, quite big for EUR 12.50) and they always have a nice Tapas menu (EUR 2.50 to EUR 6.00 per tapas).

When it's good weather they have a very nice terrace with a good number of tables outside in the heart of De Pijp (Gerard Douplein). Also the interior is quite nice.

Concerning the service, the girls are surely more pleasant and kind than the guys.

Albina - Surinamese/Chinese diner

Albina is a nice, simple and quick-service take-away/eat-in diner in De Pijp.

When we got in we randomly picked a table. It was 17.15 so it wasn't crowded. We got an english version of the menu (surprisingly) and we went though the options.

The offer is huge. They have 4 full A4 pages menu, divided in 2 columns for each page, with Surinamese typical dishes (and some Chinese also). Portions are big and prices are good.

We ordered:
Fried Rice with Duck and Pork
Fried Rice with Chicken and Pork
Mushroom Soup
Fried potatoes with spicy fish (it has a name but I don't remember it!)

Total damage was EUR 23,00.

Get an idea of what Surinamese kitchen is before you go!

WHAT THIS BLOG IS ABOUT

Dear Hungry People,

I know, it's so hard to decide where to eat in a city like Amsterdam that has soooo many restaurants from all over the world and typical "eet cafes" in every corner!

This is why I decided to share my personal opinions, knowledge and experience as an expat who knows what good food looks and tastes like and is aware of how hard is to find a good place with good prices.

I hope my posts will help you out choosing the place where you want to eat today!

My best regards!

R.
